WHAT is SDLA?

SDLA stands for South Davis Liber Academy. It is a commonwealth school group comprised of families who predominantly follow TJEd ("Leadership Education") philosophy. SDLA has its own constitution and elected board, has no paid employees, and receives no government or private-group funding. It is family-led and family-centered. Mentors are generally enthusiastic parents who are LEMI (Leadership Education Mentoring Institute) trained. The majority of families participating live in the south Davis County Utah area, although this is not a requirement to join.

SDLA Mission:
"We stand together as friends and scholars in the quest to build noble character and strong communities through virtuous leadership, selfless service, dedicated study;
and by seeking for, submitting to and becoming great mentors."

The school offers a variety of classes for youth ages ~12-18. These young adult classes meet Thursdays during the day, at the Bountiful Heights Community Church in Bountiful, Utah. Semesters run Sept-Dec and Jan-April.

This past year's classes included Key of Liberty, Shakespeare Conquest, Advanced Acting, Speech, Pyramid Project, TJYC (Thomas Jefferson Youth Certification), Sword of Freedom, World War Heroes, and Beyond TJYC.

There is also an adult 5-Pillar Tutorial class which meets Wednesday evenings. This four semester series will begin all over again this September, so we're coming to a great time to start this fabulous class! Plan now to come read, write, discuss, and learn from other interesting people.

There will be a Freedom Project (U.S. Constitution) adult evening class and possibly a Gathering Project adult community class, beginning again this coming fall.

The SDLA Spring Board Meeting will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Please see http://sdliberacademy.com/ for more information about joining our group (or creating a similar one in your area).

There is also another Davis County, Utah online group geared toward families interested in TJEd principles, but who do not necessarily have youth attending this particular school (SDLA). Please let me know if you would like more information about joining that online group, so you can be made aware of additional TJEd events or groups and support in the local area.
